Paul Smith has collaborated with Craigie Aitchison RA

For Autumn Winter 2009 Paul Smith has collaborated with British artist Craigie Aitchison RA, to produce a series of limited edition prints, used across men’s accessories.

‘I have been a friend and admirer of Craigie Aitchison for many years. I especially like his work because of his use of colour and the simplicity of his paintings. I feel very happy to be able to have this collaboration where we have used his delightful paintings of his dogs and delicate paintings of boats onto cufflinks, ties and scarves.’

Paul Smith

The collection launches in October to coincide with the Frieze Art Fair in London. It comprises of four styles of men’s tie, cufflinks and scarves featuring bird, dog and boat drawings that Craigie has become synonymous with.

Aitchison attended the Slade School of Fine Art in London (1952–4). His work is characterised by the use of intense, pure colour to describe shape and form in extremely spare compositions. His subject matter is traditional, featuring religious themes, landscapes, portraits and still-lifes. In 1955 Aitchison was awarded the British Council Italian Government Scholarship for painting and travelled to Italy, where the clear light and natural ‘Biblical' landscapes had a profound influence on his work. In 1978 Aitchison was elected an Associate Member and in 1988 a Member of the Royal Academy of Arts, London.

Colour defines Craigie’s paintings along with a sensibility to perceive what is unique or even odd in the commonplace. An eclectic mix of flowers, vases, crucifixes, dead birds, landscapes and his beloved Belington Terriers form his subject matter.

Paul Smith presents Rose Summer Edition as a summer edition in which the dominant flower is rose, typical of Paul Smith editions. Fragrant pleasure ofRoseedition is reinterpreted through summer edition decorated with sunny aspects and good mood, ideal for use in summer season.

Rose Summer Edition was developed by perfumer Antoine Maisondieu of such notes as violet and currant buds in top notes combined with green tea and sweet aquatic watermelon notes.

A heart blooms with characteristic Paul Smith rose combined with green tea, Damascus rose and iris adding discretely seductive light accents. A base is warm and woody, created of amber, light musk and sandalwood.

Paul Smith Rose Summer Edition was designed with an intention to be cheerful, dashing and spontaneous. The new flacon is in tune with the theme, created of yellow and white nuances resembling sun rays, which reflect spirit of the composition. Its outer carton is also yellow, with picture of rose with pale yellow petals on the box. The perfect contrast to yellow is strong pink cyclamen nuance of name of the fragrance, giving a strong and clear summer effect. The fragrance will be available as 100 ml EDT as a limited edition from January 2010.
