9 year old from Sheffield Youngest European National to Reach Top of Kilimanjaro

Callum Cutinha, aged 9 years from Sheffied, United Kingdom summitted Kilimanjaro via the Machame route in 5 days on 14th August 2010. The Machame route is known to be one of the most challenging up Kilimanjaro (dubbed the "Whiskey Route") which most adults trek in 7 days. He is thought to be the youngest person to have conquered Kilimanjaro using this route, and the second youngest in the world to conquer Africa's highest peak (Keats from the USA being the youngest to climb Kilimanjaro using the less challenging Marangu route in 2008).

With no prior pre-trek preparation, Callum 9 a Year 5 pupil from St Marie's School, and his brother Cyril aged 15 from Notre Dame High School (Year 11), both reached Uhuru Peak (5895m) with their parents Patrick and Nancy Cutinha, directors of adventure travel company Aim 4 Africa Ltd based in Sheffield. The family celebrated their victory on Africa's highest peak on Patrick and Nancy's wedding anniversary.
